Katt Fischer receives Central Penn College Health Sciences award

Central Penn College Health Sciences has announced its winter 2021 Perseverance and Leadership Awards. The Leadership Award was presented to medical assistant student Debra (Katt) Fischer, of Harrisburg, Pa. Her professor's nomination reads: "Katt Fischer is the president of Club M Ed. She is always leading the students in fundraisers and in the philanthropic projects of our group. "She has volunteered to help 'newer' students with venipunctures and studying for the phlebotomy exam. Katt is willing to help students study in any area of the phlebotomy or medical assisting programs. "A few years ago, she was in one of the plays with the theatre on campus. Her enthusiasm greatly supports the MA and phlebotomy programs and motivates students to participate."

Kayla Browning receives Central Penn College Health Sciences award

Central Penn College Health Sciences has announced its winter 2021 Perseverance and Leadership Awards. The Perseverance Award was presented to phlebotomy student Kayla Browning, of Lykens, Pa. Her professor's nomination reads: "Kayla Browning is in her third term of the phlebotomy program and has demonstrated that no matter what life throws in her path, she is going to keep on striving to succeed. "She has experienced numerous personal issues that have caused financial and emotional strain. Through it all, she has kept up with her school work doing a exemplary job on work submitted. "She continues to stay professional and demonstrates a positive attitude to her peers even during her recent struggles. Kayla communicates with her professors on a consistent basis to keep us update with challenges she faces. Kayla is determined to continue and finish the phlebotomy certificate so she can work in the field to provide for her children."

Central Penn College Education Foundation scholarships awarded

During the fall 2020 term, 152 Central Penn College students were awarded $135,000 in scholarships by the Central Penn College Education Foundation! "We are committed to making a difference in the lives of our students," said Sandy Box, director of the Education Foundation. "These scholarships can be true game-changers. For many of our students, these awards can mean the difference between staying and finishing their degree or leaving due to financial concerns." During the 2019-2020 academic year, the Foundation awarded $243,000 to 288 Central Penn students. Students can apply for scholarships in August and February; awards are then given in the fall and spring terms, respectively.

Central Penn College students inducted into Gamma Beta Phi

Thirty-eight Central Penn College students were recently inducted into the Gamma Beta Phi (GBP) Society, a national collegiate honor society, in a virtual ceremony. Conducting the ceremonies via Zoom were club officers Crystal Rinker, Michelle Surynt, Leslie Heimbaugh, Cierra DeWalt and Tabitha Dougherty, guided by club advisors Adrienne Thoman and Lucy Hunsberger. Students can join the society by earning a 3.3 cumulative grade point average and successfully completing 12 credits at Central Penn. Gamma Beta Phi has chapters all across the United States. It regularly inducts thousands of academically excellent students who share its mission of promoting education and providing community service to their colleges and communities. The society has made a major impact all across America.

Congratulations to Central Penn College's Allied Health students who have been pinned, symbolizing the successful completion of the academic portion of their program. These students in Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy Technician, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physical Therapist Assistant are recognized for their hard work and dedication to studying for their field. Each pin signifies that the knowledge and skills they have learned will be used to identify and meet the needs of those for whom they act as caregivers.

Central Penn College's Lancaster Center PTA students are pinned

Congratulations to Central Penn College's Lancaster Center physical therapist assistant (PTA) students who earned their pins this fall. "Our Physical Therapist Assistant students demonstrated their flexibility, resiliency and intellectual rigor during a super-challenging year," said Dr. Lori Eberly, lead instructor for the PTA program at Lancaster Center. "Their can-do attitude was a bright spot for myself and Steve Campbell, my fellow professor, in Lancaster."

Central Penn College student achieves fundraising goal

Central Penn College accounting student Parker Rose completed his third and final year as a Real Men on Campus Candidate, a division of Real Men Wear Pink. This campaign is a part of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Harrisburg. Rose raised $1,518 this year, making his total $3,600 over the past three years. Real Men Wear Pink gives men a leadership role in the fight against breast cancer. Community leaders around the nation use the power of pink to raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society's breast cancer initiatives, including innovative research, patient services and education around screenings and risk reduction. Congratulations to Rose for his outstanding initiative and leadership in this program over the past three years.

"We are extremely proud of our 416 graduates who persevered and prevailed--in face of unprecedented challenges posed by a global pandemic--to earn their degree," said Dr. Linda Fedrizzi-Williams, president of the Central Penn College. Approximately 40% of Central Penn's 2020 class graduated with honors.

2019-2020 Scholarships

During the 2019-2020 academic year, the nonprofit Education Foundation awarded more $243,000 to 288 Central Penn College students. The Central Penn College Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose sole mission is to raise funds to support Central Penn College students through scholarships. Since being founded in 2004, the Education Foundation has distributed more than $2 million in scholarships to over 2,300 students.

The Utz Family 3 E's Scholarship was recently awarded to five Central Penn College students.
