Samantha Johnson receives Sosnoski scholarship from Central Penn College

2017 Apr 27

In October 2016, the Central Penn Family lost faculty member Ellen Sosnoski in a tragic fire. Ellen was a valued member of our team, teaching in both the Health Sciences and Business departments.

After her death, the Central Penn College Education Foundation worked with members of the faculty and staff to establish the Ellen Sosnoski Memorial Scholarship Award. These awards were presented on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Two students each received a $1000 award: Samantha Johnson, healthcare management; and Paige Benfer, business administration, healthcare administration.

"It is really special to be able to honor Ellen's commitment to Central Penn students in this way," said Matt Lane, executive director of the Central Penn College Education Foundation. "A scholarship is such a meaningful and valuable gift to a student - and Ellen's legacy will live on through the success and achievements of these students her scholarship has impacted."

The awards were presented by Ellen's sister, Amber Johnson, and Ellen's two sons, Owen and Henry. After the presentation, all had the opportunity to share their memories of Ellen, through laughter and tears. Approximately 25 people attended the event, including some of Ellen's former students Jodi Sentz, LaToya Slaughter, and Gillian Lawrence. Deans, program chairs, faculty, students, family and friends also attended the presentation.
