Murray Ruggiero III named Central Penn College's Athlete of the Month

2017 Apr 5

Business administration student Murray Ruggiero III, from Wallingford, Conn., has been named the April Athlete of the Month for Central Penn College. Ruggiero is from Wallingford, Conn., where he attended Mark T. Sheehan High School. Ruggiero attended three junior colleges before transferring to Central Penn, playing baseball at all three. He is now a part of the Central Penn intercollegiate baseball program.

This past summer, Ruggiero played in the Mountain West Summer Collegiate Baseball League for the Summit Extreme in Breckenridge, Colorado, where he was an outfielder. The league was made up of NCAA Division I, II and III players. Ruggiero was the only USCAA baseball player in the league.

"This past summer was one of the best experiences of my life," says Ruggierro. "Playing alongside players of much higher talent level than me was a blessing. I was able to see how good the talent was all over the country. I will always remember playing alongside four players currently on the University of San Diego roster, a top 20 NCAA Division I team. Not only were the players humble, but I still keep in contact with them and I made friends for life."

Ruggiero also loves coaching. He has already found an assistant coaching job in the Tidewater Summer League for the Tidewater Hawks. This is a college summer baseball league for players to keep up on their skills for their next college season. The league is made up of NCAA Division I and II baseball players from all over the country. Ruggiero plans to find a graduate assistant or assistant coaching job for the fall to continue his coaching career. Ruggiero hopes to someday be a head coach at the college level.
