Mary Weingartner named Central Penn College's Athlete of the Month

2017 Feb 2

Mary Weingartner recently completed her bachelor's degree in homeland security management, and is finishing her college career by being named Central Penn College's January Athlete of the Month.

Weingartner, born and raised in Coopersburg, Pa., chose to attend Central Penn College for the reputation of the professors, staff and the accelerated terms. She turned to basketball to relieve stress and to have some fun, while juggling all the aspects of school and life. The women's basketball team became Weingartner's second family, and she felt at home when she started playing ball.

Weingartner also was a member of the Colleges Against Cancer Club, where she raised awareness and funding for the American Cancer Society and served as last year's secretary. She also competed on the women's soccer team, and had the honor of being named USCAA Academic All-Star for both sports (basketball and soccer). For Weingartner, a big part of being a student athlete is remembering that "student" comes first.

Weingartner, who was a hardworking student and athlete, feels blessed and grateful to have the family and friends that she does. Growing up with an amazing support system, Weingartner has always been encouraged to pursue her passions in life. She has three brothers which taught her strength, patience and how to be a friend, skills she used daily at Central Penn College.
