Liandra Jackson receives award from Central Penn College

Liandra Jackson, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., a Central Penn College legal studies student, was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. award for leadership.

Described by other students as a "well-respected, inspirational leader," Jackson has served different officer roles as a member of the Rainbow Society, a Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex or Ally (LGBTQIA) group. She is currently president of the club. Jackson advocates for civil rights and the LGBTQIA community, and was described by a staff member as a person who "creates a friendly, supportive and educating campus for all people."

Students are nominated by the faculty and staff of Central Penn College. Jackson was one of four Central Penn students awarded for their outstanding performance in the areas of academic excellence, community service, leadership and character during the college's Feb. 26 Black History Month luncheon.
